Peter Nowobilski

Peter has held the position of bp’s Senior Advisor for hydrogen and eFuels since 2020. He had previously been Plant Manager for BP Chemicals, and prior to that he was Director of Business Development and VCC Technology for BP.

Peter has over three decades of experience ranging across manufacturing, technology, business development and commercial roles in both Refining and Petrochemicals.

He started his career in 1979 as a Co-Op student assigned to Fluid Catalytic Cracking research. He later served in technical assignments: process simulation model development, pilot plant operations, catalyst testing / recommendations and refinery commercial studies.

Peter transferred to Texas City Refinery in 1991, where he spent over 20 years working at nearly all of the site’s process units. He was Process Consultant for Fluid Catalytic Cracking and Alkylation; and later Optimization Superintendent for the Hydrocracking, Reforming, Sulfolane Extraction, Toluene Disproportionation, Isomerization, Distillate Desulfurization and Hydrogen Production units. Peter served four years as the Technical Superintendent for the Paraxylene and Metaxylene units. He was Operations Superintendent for the Resid Hydrotreating, Gas Oil Hydrotreating and Hydrogen Cryogenic units; and later Operations Leader for all of the refinery’s Hydroprocessing units. He served as Strategy Project Manager, leading the development of a 10 year strategy for the refinery; and as Commercial Interfaces and Day One Transition Leader for BP’s divestment of the Texas City refinery.

Peter holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with distinction from Northwestern University.
