David Martin

David Martin is a senior oil market analyst covering the refining industry and downstream markets for the Oil Industry and Markets Division at the IEA. He contributes to the Oil Market Report and is the lead author the refining section for the annual OIL report. David has three decades of experience centred on the oil and gas markets. Prior to joining the IEA in 2023, David was Head of Commodities Research at BNP Paribas. Previously, he held the position of Global Head of Oil Strategy at JP Morgan Chase. In addition to his previous work at the IEA, and his work as an equity research analyst covering European oil and gas companies, David worked in the oil industry, for ExxonMobil, BP and QatarEnergy in a variety of market analysis, planning and trading roles.
