Principal Process Engineer

Gerton is a Principal Process Engineer at Sulphur Experts Canada with 20+ years of experience in the Refining and Gas processing industry, most of which has focused on the design and optimisation of sulphur recovery processes. He received his Master’s degree in 1997 in Environmental Technology from Wageningen University in The Netherlands.

During his career, Gerton has worked on more than 150 SRU engineering design, optimization, and troubleshooting projects in 30+ countries that span a variety of technologies, including: Claus, Superclaus®, MCRC, CBA, Sulfreen, Clauspol, Selectox, amine-based tail gas units (SCOT), thermal oxidizers, and sulphur degassing systems. Gerton also has considerable experience working in South America. Throughout his career, he has contributed to projects in Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and Curaçao.
Gerton has supervised and provided process engineering assistance to over 40 field projects that include either SRU commissioning, shutdown, or startup, and he still enjoys spending a significant time in the field every year. One memorable achievement in Gerton’s career was winning Suncor’s President’s Operational Excellence Award in the category Environmental Excellence for the Simonette Gas Plant ABC+ Project.

Gerton has written numerous papers and presented at world renowned conferences such as LRGCC, SOGAT, CRU Sulphur, and Brimstone Vail.
