Peter Botschek

Peter Botschek has served since 2021 as Director Industrial Policy and Competitiveness with the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic), Brussels. He is Cefic delegate to the Commission’s Industry Strategy mission, to the Industrial Forum; member of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Emissions Trading (ETS) Expert Groups. From 2006 to 2018 as Director of Energy & Health, Safety and environment with Cefic and from 2018 to 2021 in the position of Director Climate Change & Energy with Cefic, leading Cefic positioning towards ETS Review, carbon leakage provisions, state aid guidelines, etc.. In 2016, he was awarded by Euractiv as one of the 40 most influential individuals in EU Energy Policy. Before joining Cefic in 2001 as Manager EHS and managing chemical sector groups, Peter Botschek was seconded from HYDRO Agri, today known as YARA, to the European Fertilizer Manufacturers  Association (EFMA) in Brussels, as an issue manager for agriculture and environment. Before then, he was consultant with Thomasdünger GmbH in Germany after managing fertilizer application experiments at the company’s research & development station.

A German and Belgian national, Peter Botschek routinely works with EU and international think tanks.

He received his doctorate in agriculture in Bonn, Germany, specialising in plant nutrition and environment issues.
