Sykry Hassim

Head of Plant Division for Malaysian Refining Company, Petronas

Sykry began his career with PETRONAS in 1997 at Melaka Refinery, Malaysia. Over the past 27 years, he has held key roles in construction and commissioning, and plant maintenance and operations; and led various improvement initiatives enabling Melaka Refinery to achieve many feats of operational excellence.

In 2011, Sykry became Head of Maintenance at ENGEN Refinery in South Africa, where he transformed the refinery performance. From 2013 to 2015, he served as Head of Operational Readiness Strategy and Assurance for Pengerang Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd, overseeing the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the RAPID Project in Malaysia.

Between 2015 to 2019, he served Melaka Refinery as Head of Engineering before resuming his leadership as General Manager for ENGEN Refinery. During his tenure, the ENGEN Refinery was decommissioned and converted into an import terminal, whilst implementing repurposing projects from the refinery assets to uplift its value.

In 2023, Sykry was appointed as Senior General Manager of Plant Division at Melaka Refinery. He has been driving the team through its vision as Melaka Refinery to Melaka Energy Park (MEP) to realize energy transition aspiration in support of PETRONAS Net Zero Carbon Emission targets.

Sykry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), Australia.
