WOMEN IN REFINING AT ERTC 2024

Published 10 October 2024

ERTC Women in Refining

At the World Refining Association (WRA), we are dedicated to closing the talent gap in the refining industry by championing diversity and inclusion across all our global programmes. Our flagship event, the European Refining Technology Conference (ERTC), launched the Rising Stars Award seven years ago to cultivate young talent, providing a platform for the future generation of industry leaders to present their ideas to refinery executives. Building on the success of this programme, we are excited to introduce a new initiative recognising Women in Refining Leadership, which aims to amplify the voices of women in the industry and ensure they are prominently featured across the WRA portfolio.

To kick off this effort, we invited our leading female speakers at this year's ERTC to share insights on their career paths, their thoughts on the challenges the refining industry faces and much more!

Read the full brochure below to discover the vital role women play in refining and the signifcant impact they are making within the industry.

MEET THE WOMEN IN REFINING

We invited our leading female speakers at this year's ERTC to share insights on their career paths, their thoughts on the challenges the refining industry faces and much more!

Take a look on what they had to say…

Berta Cabello

Renewable Fuels Director, Respol

The most important challenge for me, is the perception different stakeholders have of us. We are seen not as an ally to transform energy use, but as a stopper. This is a pity, as we have the capabilities and willingness to create alternatives for more sustainable products.

Celia Ruiz Hernandez

Digital Manager Energy Parks, CEPSA

Be curious, investigate, never accept “That's how it's always been done”.

Ozzy Jegunma

Senior Research Analyst, Wood Mackenzie

Connections with people can be invaluable whether that's someone to help shape your career development and highlight opportunities or just someone you problem-solve with.

Yvonne Reissner

Technical Sales, Orcan Energy

The best career advice I’ve received is, “Do good things and talk about it.” This simple yet powerful statement has shaped my approach to work and life.

Raffaella Lucarno

Biorefining & Supply Manager, Enilive

The most important consideration is not only where we want to go, but also when. Timing is crucial.

Samiya Parvez

Process Engineer, Fluor

You are in charge of your own career path and progression. Know what you want and politely ask for it. If you are fortunate to get the opportunity, grab it with both hands and execute the job well.

Sissel Nepstad

Head of Asset Development of the Mongstad Refinery, Equinor

In general, automatization, digitalization, and tools for surveillance and detecting early signs of change from big data play a significant role in refining.

Elena Scaltritti

Chief Commercial Officer, Topsoe

Success is not just about technical skills or how far you climb up the ladder; it's about fostering relationships, being adaptable, and driving meaningful change through collaboration and shared purpose.
