Christophe Vuillez, Senior Vice President Strategy, Development & Research for Refining & Chemicals, Total

Christophe was our Keynote Speaker at ERTC 2018.

In this interview, Christophe speaks about his role at Total, their Joint Venture with Saudi Aramco, how Total is responding to the increasing decarbonisation trend and the importance for the downstream industry to be creative, to develop new sills and to constantly innovate.

About Christophe Vuillez

Christophe Vuillez began his career in 1988 at SNECMA (now Safran Aircraft Engines) , where he led an R&D team specialized in aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). He joined Elf (merged with Total in 2000) in late 1994 and helped build the Leuna refinery in Germany as Operations Manager. In early 2000, he moved to Louis Dreyfus to help develop its telecommunications business (Louis Dreyfus Communications, subsequently Neuf Telecom and Neuf Cegetel). He held a variety of executive positions.

In 2006, Mr. Vuillez rejoined to Total where he held a number of positions in the Refining & Marketing business, including Project Director for an upgrader, based in Calgary, Alberta;  General Manager, Major Developments in Strategy;  then Vice President, Refining Development Asia-Pacific, based in Beijing. When the Refining & Chemicals segment was created in January 2012, he was appointed Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions in the Strategy, Development & Research Division.

In September 2016, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Strategy, Development & Research and joins R&C’s Management Committee. Mr. Vuillez is a graduate of the French engineering schools Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace.
