Meet the Speaker

Arief Frianda, Digital Technology Engineer, Pt. Chandra. Asri Petrochemical TBK.

Published in 2020

Arief Frianda is a Digital Technology Engineer at PT. Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk, Indonesia. His main role is to monitor and optimise plant process conditions by using Advanced Process Control (APC). He is also responsible for studying, implementing, and maintaining other digital technology projects and programmes in the plant.

What is the biggest challenge faced by the refining and petrochemical industry today?

Modernising and updating the plant's current condition. Neither technology nor humans are ready to support some of our current digital technology projects. It is part of my job to find a solution for that.

Please share your safety tip for 2020 – how can operators achieve higher safety and efficiency?

Operators should provide regular safety training for new employees as well as old employees. Operators should always check and review that their work instructions are implemented properly.

Please share your views on IMO2020 and impact on refining

IMO2020 is important for our life continuity. Refiners should challenge themselves to find new green technologies to support this IMO2020.

What are the latest technology adoptions by downstream operators in Asia?

Machine learning and big data analytics.

Please elaborate your thoughts on EVs and impact on refining – is it the end of oil?

By increasing EVs development, refiners will reduce oil allocation to fuel. Refining can produce more oil for petrochemicals.

What do you think is the biggest impact that technology will have on the industry in the next five years?

Plants will be able to operate with less monitoring by humans.

What will be the highlight of your presentation at Asian Downstream Summit or ARTC 2020?

To show that APC project implementation is not only about APC software, but also about DCS interlock logic, PID tuning of DCS controllers, OPC software and hardware compatibility, and so on.

Arief Frianda will be speaking at ARTC 2020.
Save the date: 28th – 29th October 2020, Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore
